Durham Apartments for Rent

Duke University has purchased several rental properties in neighborhoods close to campus, with the intent of turning them into owner-occupied residences.

Duke paid almost $4 million for 12 houses near the University, said John F. Burness, senior VP for public affairs. Duke plans to make repairs and sell these homes anyone who will agree to invest in renovations and then live in the home.

Duke students are currently renting the homes. The current management company is informing renters of the ownership change and that no leases will be extended.

“Fortunately, there is a robust apartment and rental market near the campus that can accommodate students’ rental demand,” Burness said. There are hundreds of Durham Apartments for rent so this should have a minimal impact on the Durham apartment market.
